Why Diets for 6 Pack Abs Fail

Everyday people will start a diet plan they are sure will help them lose belly fat, get into shape, and even get 6 pack abs. However, the wrong approach will seriously impact your ability to succeed in even the most thought out plan. A diet plan that is followed too aggressively will actually slow your progress, almost to where you will see no results.

Your body has been trained over the years to function in the most efficient manner possible, given the inputs you give it every day. If you consume 2000 calories in a normal day, your body is optimized to operate assuming another 2000 calories will arrive the next day. Functions such as metabolism, heart rate, and fat storage are trained for this condition.

When starting a diet and exercise plan to reduce body fat and get 6 pack abs, most people will dive right in, making drastic changes on day one. A 2000 calorie diet is cut to 1500. Fat, sugar, and carbohydrate intakes are drastically cut as well.

The result of this drastic activity will be your body sending signals that something is drastically wrong. Your body will start to protect the fat stores it had worked to build up, instead of releasing them for burning and consumption. It is more a case of survival mode rather than fat loss.

For better results, plan your diet like you would other long term activities with milestones and a well laid out strategy. One possible idea is to start by reduced 1/10th of the total caloric reduction you are targeting and decrease by the same amount each week until you are at your target consumption level. Also, gradually build your exercise plan with the same concept - small increases in output over a period of time. Using the method, your body will react much more favorable to the change in conditions.

As with any diet, ensuring you still get enough vitamins, nutrients and other important elements is an important step. With today's advanced medicine, there are countless drinks, pills and other supplements available for everyday use. Be sure to study and understand the effects of any supplement before you start taking it. As with any diet program, it is also advisable to talk to your family doctor before starting.
