Working out with sandbags has been getting more popular these days. But it you want to take odd object training to another level try lifting atlas stones. You will not be able to do the same types of exercises as you would with sandbags, just basically pick it up, but you will target the whole body in the process.
The atlas stone has been around for a while, you can see them in strongman competitions and they are used in gyms and at homes for general strength workouts. You can actually make your own with relative ease. You would just uses a ball for a mold and use cement. If you want one that is not so heavy just use maybe a basketball, something heavy could be made with a larger beach ball. Another article will show the steps to making one.
Basically what you would be doing is lifting the atlas stone up off the ground. Depending on how heavy the stone is will dictate how much technique you must employ to lift it. The benefit of lifting the stone is that it activate all the large muscle groups in your body giving you an excellent whole body workout.
In addition to using an atlas stone you can pretty much use any large rock or something large that you can use for lifting. An object that is not round but with many angles could make it easier to hold onto where a round stone can be slippery and difficult to hold which increases its difficulty level..
