Fitness Strength Training – the Secret to A Sexy Body

Aerobics are great for increasing blood flow, elevating your heart rate and upping your metabolism.  Jogging, walking, bicycling and dancing are great ways to get your body moving. But if you want to tone it, bulk it up or slim it down, you need to do more.

Thirty to forty minutes a day of muscle targeting and strength training is necessary after your initial stretching and aerobic session. Why?  It takes energy for a muscle to stretch and relax. That energy comes from your body burning calories. Exercise enough and it will have to convert energy from the fat it has been storing around your middle and buns. Repetitive movement of your muscles can not only give you more power, it can improve your brain function and blood flow as well. Exercise through muscle strengthening  helps the body pump glucose and oxygen to the cells. The repeated movement keeps them flexible and less prone to injury.

But before you run out and buy a bunch of weights and resistance bands, here are some tips on how to strength train the correct way -

Start off slow and easy. If you go gung-ho, your muscles will definitely let you know. Overstraining them will only force you to lay off exercise all together for a few days until they recover, thus defeating your purpose. 
Increase your weight or resistance bands if after 10-12 reps you still do not feel your muscles fatigue, but not until then.
Stay hydrated before, during and after each work out session.
Eat plenty of protein both before and after to regulate your blood sugars and give you energy.
No matter how much of an expert you believe you are, anytime you are starting on a new machine, weight level or program, start as a beginner and build up.
Never skip a meal when you are exercising. All that does is force your metabolism to plummet and your energy to be depleted so you will not be able to do as much or maintain your stamina.
Focus on the correct form to make sure you are taxing the right muscle groups. Try and not let other muscles take over the job.
Rest between sets. You'll be able to do more that way.

 

Any model will tell you that lean, well-defined muscles is what everyone wants. A fit body is a sexy body.  Even if you don't want to bulk up, you can still strength train.  Both men and women can greatly benefit from adding resistance bands and weights to their exercise routines. You'll burn more fat, tone up and look healthier that with just dieting or dieting and aerobics alone. You will be more flexible, have more energy and your clothes will hang better on your frame.
