If you want to get those sexy rock hard at home abs that you see on the Hollywood Stars then you will need to understand the three most important things that those Hollywood Stars already know. Even if all you are after is a way to get a great looking flat stomach in the shortest time working out at home, these key points are equally important.

1. The real truth about getting great abs at home or anywhere else starts in your kitchen. You must get your total body fat down to at least 10% to reveal any muscle development you have on your stomach. Your diet must include quality protein as well as mono and unsaturated fats like fish oil, seeds, nuts, avocado... you get the picture. The quality protein will feed your muscle growth and the unsaturated fats will stabilize your insulin levels to keep your body burning the fat all day long.

 

You must also have the right kinds of carbs for your body to use for repairing the muscle tissue after your work out. The best is to eat 1-2 cups of raw vegetables after you finish working out. Vary these vegetables but stick with the most colorful. These supply vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber which are all necessary to get your body burning fat, keeping your metabolism high, and repairing your muscle tissue.
This same diet applies to your rest days. A wide variety of delicious meals can be prepared using these recommended foods and the exciting thing is they will naturally fill you up while staying under your maximum daily calorie intake (no real need to count calories)! Use whole grains (avoid white breads), stay away from candy, soda's (yes, even the diet type), white sugar/artificial sweeteners, and substitute with a wide variety of fruits and fruit juices (preferably from a juicer). Don't forget to drink lots of water all day long!
Cleaning up your diet will give you the fastest at home abs results as well as making you the healthiest you that you can be... now for the exercise!

2. If you are currently doing a lot of aerobic exercise like aerobics classes, bike riding, running, etc., you may continue if you have time. But you need to understand that aerobic exercise is very inefficient when it comes to burning fat and developing your abs. I recommend cutting the aerobics altogether and forgetting about crunches and sit-ups for developing your abs. Aerobics exercise raises your metabolism for only the relatively short time you do them and you must do these for a couple of hours each day to gain the same benefit as the exercises I recommend. Sit-ups and crunches are beginners exercises. They are not efficient at building the proper muscle necessary for a six pack and you will be doing these for a couple of years before you match what the real ab building exercises will do in a couple of months. Let's look at that next.

 

3. Specialized resistance weight training is the most efficient form of exercise for developing all muscles, the abs included. Not only does weight training provide quicker results for muscle development, but it causes your body to burn fat for at least 24 hours beyond the exercise period. Now ladies, take it from a girl, you must not worry about resistance weight training giving you bulky muscles. Just ask any lady body builder...we just don't have the right hormones to bulk up like the guys do! And you don't even have to go to the gym and listen to all the grunting! You can do these exercises at home abs style, at home!

Resistance weight training can be done using only your own body weight and/or some small economical dumbbells. You can always upgrade and add a barbell and bench later. The exercises can be done 3 days a week and in under an hour each of those days. This leaves the weekend and 2 weekdays for resting the muscles and allowing them to develop. Keeping the intensity and volume up during the exercise routine will give you aerobic type cardio during the exercise period. No resting between sets and only short (less than 1 minute) rest between exercises will do the trick as well as keep the total exercise period less than 1 hour.

So now you have the three most important guides to getting six pack abs at home. You know that the diet is most important, wasting time on inefficient exercise will slow your progress, and that doing resistance weight training will speed you on your way to a great set of at home abs (the rest of you will look great too!).
